For the past couple of days I’ve been trying to find models (or any living human beings) in front of my camera and have their portraits made so I can update my portfolio.
I’m currently looking for male and female couples for outdoor shoots. I put out several posts on Facebook groups dedicated for models staying in the country and I mentioned that they would be compensated for their time by giving them Hi Res JPGs for their own books. I also offered the option of posting links on my blog to their online profiles (ex: Facebook, LinkedIn, Model Mayhem page, etc.) as a form of small thanks so that other fellow photographer could find them as well. As expected, it’s not an easy task in this part of the world.
One thing I noticed though is the excess amount of spammers and non-related posts on those FB groups, like this person for example who always post snapshots of knockoff bags and accessories of famous brands and boxed cell phones laying on a table someplace, promotions for local spas, invitations to concerts and parties God only knows who is behind them, oh, and a selfie of lonely guy sitting on a couch somewhere with comments like “the past is in the past” or “life is good” or some BS like that for no apparent reason, he is not even half good looking! But then, you will find posts that are actually dedicated for models offering part time work as hosts in exhibitions or malls. But according to a professional model I met in Dubai while attending a workshop there, she said that many of those posts could be fraud.
Anyway, for some reason it seems like the majority of talents could be much easier found in Dubai, a two-hour drive from Abu Dhabi where I’m currently staying.
Now I’m trying other ways to find talents in my area. I signed up for a free account on Model Mayhem site and let’s see where I can go from there. If you are reading this and you are a photographer, I’d love to know your take on finding talents in your area.
